Jakobsen Home

How to Manage Half a Billion Furniture Variants – Without Letting Complexity Slow Them Down

For almost two decades, Jakobsen Home has run its entire operation, from purchasing and production to sales and delivery, on TRIMIT.

What has kept the partnership going this long, according to the company itself, is TRIMIT's understanding of the upholstery furniture industry, reflected both in a system built for the complexity of configurable furniture and in a partner that speaks the language of the business.

Jakobsen Home is an upholstery furniture manufacturer based in Alytus, Lithuania, specializing in configurable sofas, dining chairs, recliners and other living room. The company has its roots in Denmark, where it was founded in 1975, before production moved to Lithuania as the country opened up to foreign investment. Under its current owner, who took over the business in 2006, Jakobsen Home has grown into a manufacturer with more than 300 employees, selling to 17 markets. Benelux, Norway and Germany are its largest.

For most of its history, Jakobsen Home has operated as a private-label manufacturer: its furniture is sold in stores across Europe, but under the retailers' own brand names rather than its own. That is now changing. Jakobsen Home is launching a consumer-facing brand of its own, Jakobsen Copenhagen, built on its traditions for Danish and Scandinavian design and craftmanship.

A Business Built on Complexity

Configurable upholstery furniture is complex almost by definition. Every product can be built from a wide range of fabrics, colors, leg types, cushion options and foam types. At Jakobsen Home, that complexity adds up to a striking number.

Martina Kéketyová, Chief Information Officer, who has worked across sales, purchasing, production and now IT since the company's early years, puts it simply:

"Half a billion. I can tell you that number."

Managing that scale, from purchasing through production to delivery, has long been central to how Jakobsen Home works. As Kéketyová explains:

"The biggest challenge is, of course, the complexity of the furniture. It should not slow us down, and it should not create more errors in the processes."

TRIMIT understands the industry.
A problem can be picked up very fast, and it can be addressed very fast and properly, with the expertise from other industries too.

A Partner That Understands the Industry

Jakobsen Home has worked with TRIMIT since around 2008. According to Kéketyová, the main reason why the partnership has lasted so long – and is still strong and valuable to Jakobsen Home – is TRIMIT’s industry knowledge:

"TRIMIT understands the industry. A problem can be picked up very fast, and it can be addressed very fast and properly, with the expertise from other industries too."

That knowledge means Jakobsen Home doesn't have to start every conversation from scratch. Instead of a generic system that "sits on the shelf," Kéketyová describes TRIMIT as a partner that brings an outside perspective while still respecting how the company already works:

"To us, TRIMIT is a reliable, very agile, and industry-specific partner. We strongly appreciate the partnership."

Founded in Denmark in 1975, Jakobsen Home is an upholstery furniture manufacturer based in Alytus, Lithuania. With more than 300 employees, the company produces configurable sofas, chairs and other upholstered furniture for customers in 17 markets. Alongside its private-label business, Jakobsen Home is now introducing its own furniture brand, Jakobsen Copenhagen, rooted in Danish design and craftsmanship.

One System, Full Visibility

TRIMIT runs across the full width of Jakobsen Home's operation: purchasing, production, logistics, sales and finance:

"It's a whole 360-degree view of the operation in the company."

Variant management sits at the core of that. On a single sales order line, Jakobsen Home can handle a wide range of different products, planned through production via what the system calls work centers, corresponding to departments on the factory floor.

Delivery is equally specific: rather than shipping to a central warehouse, Jakobsen Home delivers directly to individual furniture stores across its markets, and TRIMIT gives it traceability across that whole chain, from purchasing to production to delivery, including where and by whom a given product was made.

TRIMIT is also connected via API to several external systems on the factory floor, including fabric-cutting software and an automatic sofa packing line that generates optimized labeling automatically, with an integration to foam-cutting machinery currently in progress. As a result, Kéketyová says, manual entry has largely disappeared from production:

"People really don’t rely on Excel sheets or manual processes anymore. Everything just runs much more smoothly”

Jakobsen Home is currently more than halfway through an upgrade of its TRIMIT setup, moving from an older version to the latest release of Business Central. The upgrade will keep the platform current and give Jakobsen Home access to new capabilities, including AI, while creating a stronger foundation for further improvements across the business.

Once the upgrade is live, TRIMIT's Web Returns module is planned as a next step, supporting Jakobsen Home's relatively complex handling of complaints and returns.

Scaling Without Switching Systems

Since 2008, Jakobsen Home has grown on the same platform rather than switching systems as the business changed:

"It was easier to scale with TRIMIT. We could really scale together, on the same platform, and look into the processes: how we can make it easier, how we can shorten them, how we can disconnect from external tools like Excel."

Looking ahead, the ongoing upgrade is expected to extend that further, in particular on the sales side, where Jakobsen Home currently relies more on manual order handling than it does in production.

Today, customer orders can take one to three days to reach production planning. Kéketyová expects this process to be reduced to just minutes once sales teams and customers have real time visibility into order status, "so they no longer have to guess how things are progressing."

She also expects TRIMIT to help Jakobsen Home make more use of the data already sitting in the system, using AI to take over lower-value administrative work so people can spend their time elsewhere.

The upgrade will also need to support the operational side of Jakobsen Copenhagen specifically: branded packaging, dust covers, leg packaging and leaflets, all part of what customers experience when they unbox a piece of furniture:

"I know for a fact that TRIMIT will be able to handle all the specifics, even down to labels, packages, dust covers and leaflets."

Seeing Furniture in a New Light

The push behind Jakobsen Copenhagen came from the market: a major German retailer asked for a genuinely Danish brand – something with its own identity rather than a private label. Pernille Gjøls-Andersen, who joined Jakobsen Home roughly a year ago to lead the launch as Head of Brand & Marketing, describes it as a shift in mindset as much as a new product line:

"It's a different game – a different mindset for the company – to sell a business-to-consumer brand than it is to be business-to-business," Gjøls-Andersen says.

The brand is already live in more than 80 showrooms in Germany and is expanding into Belgium. A new showroom in Copenhagen, opened in mid-2026, gives Jakobsen Copenhagen a physical home and doubles as "a creative commercial hub for development and commercial presentations" in Gjøls-Andersen's words.

For Kéketyová, who has spent most of her career on the manufacturing side, the shift is also something she is personally invested in:

"It's super exciting. Not just being manufacturing-driven, but actually sales-driven and commercial-driven. Suddenly you see that furniture in a completely different light."

Nearly two decades in, the relationship between Jakobsen Home and TRIMIT is entering its next phase alongside the company itself. As Jakobsen Copenhagen takes shape and the TRIMIT upgrade moves toward completion, the same system that has long managed the complexity of the factory floor is now being asked to carry a new brand, too – one order, one variant, and one showroom at a time.

"It was easier to scale with TRIMIT. We could really scale together, on the same platform, and look into the processes: how we can make it easier, how we can shorten them, how we can disconnect from external tools like Excel."
